Waterfalls
Waterfalls and flowing streams are one of my very favorite things. I just got my first polarizer and ND filters so I set out today to one of my favorite local places with a few good (but small) cascades. It had rained a lot the past week, but was extremely dry before that so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was also hoping for an overcast day, but it turned out to be bright and sunny which led to some difficulty with exposure.
Coming upon the first 'wet' section of trail I realized the water levels were pretty low, but I continued on the 1.5 mile trek to the falls I wanted to shoot. I shot some flowing streams along the way, which were pretty nice, but not really flowing well.
Finally I arrived at the first set of falls I was after and they were flowing well enough, but I had seen them better in the past. Still, it made for some decent shots.
The mixed full sun and full shade in these shots was difficult, which is why I was hoping for an overcast day. Plus Bagel the adventure dog really was not interested in sitting still this day and had me a bit distracted.
I moved down the stream a little and think I could have gotten a really good shot from here, but I seem to have problems with wind blurring the trees, plus a difficult camera / tripod position (unless I wanted to get really wet)
I think I can do better on this shot and will definitely try it again at some point. I gathered up my gear and moved along to the main attraction, Chikahoki Falls.
They were flowing well enough, but at full flow they cascade down both sides of the cliff. This was the end destination, and the mosquitoes started getting thick so we turned back and headed out. In the end I think I can get better shots in this location under different conditions. Namely, fully overcast, and during a wetter period for more water flow. I will be revisiting this one at some point.
