Macro Hibiscus
I always seem to gravitate towards the most difficult genres of anything I do. In the case of photography that would be Astrophotography, and more recently, Macro photography. Maybe its because I like the technical challenge of it, or maybe I am just a glutton for punishment.
In any case, macro, like astro, requires a good deal of post-processing to get a usable image, but for different reasons. Macro photography has an extremely shallow depth of field, and therefore requires combining multiple photos of different focus to get one sharp image from front to back. I am still pretty new to this process, and still learning the finer points of it. Here's my most recent attempt: A Hibiscus flower.
It came out pretty good. This is a combination of 15 different images. The automatic stacking process leaves some defects though, areas of blurry spots that must be manually corrected. I have not mastered that process yet. I have a few other compositions of this that will be better in end result, but have a lot more issues to correct manually. When finished, one of these shots is definitely going in the portfolio.
